Labs on Fullscript: Quickstart guide for Rupa practices

Welcome to the next chapter of your labs workflow on Fullscript.

What started on Rupa now lives inside a more connected platform built for the full patient journey — from testing and results to recommendations, follow-up care, and ongoing engagement.

This quickstart guide walks you through how to order your first lab, select your billing option, support patients through testing, and manage results on Fullscript.

What to expect

The simple workflow you loved about Rupa carries forward:

  • Let us guide your patients to completion with clear testing and phlebotomy instructions

If you’re already using Fullscript, your labs, supplements and clinical decision support are now accessible in one place for a fully integrated experience. 

If you’re new to Fullscript, the experience is labs-first from the start. The patient-facing open supplements catalog is turned off by default so you can decide if and when it feels right to explore beyond labs.

Sending your first lab recommendation

On Fullscript, labs are sent to patients through a plan. You can send labs on their own, or choose to combine them with supplements and resources in a single step.

To send your first plan with testing:

  1. Click Build Plan from your lab orders dashboard, or start from the labs catalog directly.
  2. Search for a test or lab company.
  3. Select tests and panels and click Add to plan.
  4. Click Review Plan in the top right when you’re ready. 
  5. Assign the plan to a patient.
  6. Send the plan.

As you send your first plan, keep in mind:

  • You can continue to personalize your workflow using favorites, custom panels, and templates, alongside your transferred Rupa panels and bundles. 
  • If you previously used Rupa’s physician services, you can continue recommending testing via an external signing clinician through the authorization network
  • Your staff can keep their workflow intact with the same ability to send and manage testing on behalf of providers
  • Lab orders and results may also be available through supported EHR integrations

Choose how testing is paid for

Fullscript supports the same billing options as Rupa, for flexibility on every plan. Before sending your plan, choose how testing will be paid for:

  • Patient pay: The patient pays through Fullscript’s checkout.
  • Provider pay: Your practice pays for testing and bills your patient separately, with no pricing disclosed on Fullscript.
  • Custom fee: Your practice adds an itemized fee to the cost of testing, paid out to you.

Billing details to know

  • Labs on Fullscript are cash-pay only, just like Rupa.
  • Fullscript charges a 3% service fee on specialty kits only, compared to Rupa’s 7% on the entire order. 
  • Patients can use an interest-free payment plan or HSA/FSA, depending on their plan administrator.
  • Account owners can set up custom fees from Labs settings—choose a fee name and amount, adjustable on each individual order.
  • Custom fee payouts on Fullscript are initiated when a specialty kit ships or a blood lab requisition is generated—no waiting for results like on Rupa. Learn more.

Set your team’s lab preferences

Your practice’s account owner can adjust lab settings to match how your team operates.

From Labs settings, account owners can:

Your results notification preferences from Rupa carry over automatically and can be adjusted by each individual provider’s preferences so results always reach the right person on your team. 

Supporting your patients through testing

After you send a plan, we take it from there. Your patient is guided through every step—from checkout to collection to shipping—now with the convenience of a mobile app. View the complete patient experience

For Quest and Access Labcorp Draw

  • Patients receive a digital requisition immediately after payment, so they can schedule their blood draw right away.
  • Patients can schedule with a Quest or Labcorp location depending on the testing ordered, or choose a mobile phlebotomy option when available.
  • Preparation instructions like fasting or timing are provided right in Fullscript.

For specialty labs

  • Test kits are shipped directly to your patient with tracking at every step.
  • Each kit includes detailed instructions and custom requisition forms for easy at-home collection.
  • Patients use the included prepaid packaging to return their completed kit to the lab for processing.

Track orders and review results

Once testing is underway, use the lab orders dashboard to track progress and review results, just like you did on Rupa.

This dashboard gives you a centralized view of all lab activity so you can manage orders and follow up with patients.

Viewing and managing lab results

  • Blood lab results include interactive interpretations to visualize results within optimal and standard reference ranges, track trends over time, and generate patient-friendly reports with recommended next steps.
  • Book free clinical consultations to review results directly with the lab if you’re ordering under your own license.
  • Receive test results directly through your supported EHR integration — you decide when to notify your patients about lab results, by sharing directly from Fullscript or your EHR.
